The department of laboratory pathology was established in 1962. It was reconstructed and expanded to 500m2 in 2000, including rooms of isolater, SPF, operation, patholohical laboratory and other facilities. It is mainly responsible for providing services to the institute and other agencies for the experiment studies with laboratory animals and conditions. The Department itself also did research works on the issues related to cancer etiology and pathology by means of observing the abnormal morphological changes developed in laboratory animals.
We have successfully beeded immunodeficient mice, such as nude mice, SCID mice and NIH-3 mice (T, B and NK cell out), and etc. Many animal or/and metastasis models of human cancers (e.g. lung, stomach, colon, liver, breast, ovary, etc.) in immuneodeficient mice were established within the Department during the past years. We will establish the technique platform with the experiments of cancer treatment and the selection of medicine on the levels of animal and cell. The Department will continue to do the experiments on highly metastasis models in mice and the selection of cell lines.
