School of Chemistry & Chemical Technology

Shanghai Jiao Tong University established the Department of Chemistry in 1928 and the Department of Chemical Engineering in 1946. In 1979, the University re-established the Department of Applied Chemistry. In 1997, Shanghai Jiao Tong University established the School of Chemistry and Chemical Technology in collaboration with Shanghai Research Institute of Chemical Industry. Shanghai Jiao Tong University has produced a great number of expertise in chemistry and chemical engineering in the past 70 years.

School of Chemistry and Chemical Technology is composed of four departments (Department of Polymer Science and Engineering, Department of Materials Chemistry and Physics, Department of Chemical Engineering and Technology, Department of Applied Chemistry), three research institutes (Research Institute of Polymer Materials, Research Institute of Fine Chemical Engineering and Research Institute of Environmental Chemical Engineering), one computer station and one reference library. The School has 96 graduate students and more than 400 undergraduate students.

The School has one academian of Chinese Academy of Sciences, 21 professors (12 doctoral supervisors), 23 associate professors and senior engineers.
