YANG Shengli is an expert in medical biotechnology. He was born in 1941 and graduated from East China University of Science and Engineering in 1962. Up to date, he is a professor of the Medical College of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the director of the National Laboratory of Oncogenes and Related Genes, senior researcher in Shanghai Research Center of Biotechnology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the supervisor to phD students. He was elected as a member of Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1997, and is a member of the national experts committee in high technology of biology and modern agriculture area.

Professor Yang has devoted himself to antibiotics and bacterial resistance research. He researched on molecular pharmacology, microbial hemoglobin gene, genetic engineering and protein engineering of enzymes. He made great contribution to the development of medical biotechnology. In the recent years, he is engaging in function genomics.
